After being one of the first EU countries in need of a bail-out in 2008, Latvia is slowly recovering and aiming to join the eurozone on Jan. 1, 2014, despite current problems in the single currency area, the country’s newly elected president told the European Union’s on-line news Web site EU Observer, reports AFP.
