The aim of changing the pension system is to give everyone dignity in retirement and reduce inequality in society, Estonian Prime Minister Juri Ratas said in remarks issued after the ruling coalition had agreed about making the first pillar of the pension system fully solidarity-based, meaning that the size of the first-pillar pension will in the future depend only on the number of years worked and not on the person’s salary.
