On 25July2016, during the scanning of a cargo vehicle entering from the Russian Federation at Terehova Customs Control Point (hereinafter— “CCP"), it was discovered that there were several boxes fastened with belts under the vehicle and the trailer. Continuing control in the in-depth control building, it was discovered that the boxes hidden under the vehicle contained cigarettes. As the result of control, 60,000pcs. of “LM" cigarettes with the excise duty stamps of the Russian Federation were seized. With regard to the aforementioned, on 25July2016, the SRS Customs Police Department initiated criminal proceedings according to the constituent elements of a criminal offence stipulated in Section190, Paragraph three of the Criminal Law and detained one person, whom a security measure unrelated to the deprivation of liberty was applied.Investigation continues and seized cigarettes will be transferred to the Provision State Agency for destruction.
On 21Julya.c., during the control of a freight train entering from Belarus at Indra CCP, customs officials discovered hidden 20packages in a non-transparent black polyethylene film in wagons under a layer of coal. They contained 100,000pcs. of “PREMJER" and “NZ Gold" cigarettes with the excise duty stamps of the Republic of Belarus.
With regard to the discovered violations of customs regulations, proceedings were initiated in accordance with Section20112 of the Latvian Administrative Violations Code in administrative violation cases, which were transferred to the Customs Police Department for deciding on the issue regarding the initiation of criminal proceedings.
On the same day, i.e. 21July, at Terehova CCP, a customs official and an employee of the State Border Guard, in carrying out the control of a cargo van entering from the Russian Federation, had suspicions that the car might have double ceiling, where it was possible to hide and transport non-declared goods. By dismantling the roof structure of the car, 409,960pcs. of “NZ Gold" cigarettes with the excise duty stamps of the Republic of Belarus were discovered. With regard to the aforementioned, on 22July2016, the SRS Customs Police Department initiated criminal proceedings according to the constituent elements of a criminal offence stipulated in Section190, Paragraph three of the Criminal Law and detained one person, a citizen of the Republic of Belarus born in 1980, whom a security measure unrelated to the deprivation of liberty was applied.
On 19Julya.c., during the physical customs control of a train at Indra CCP in cooperation with the officials of the State Border Guard, it was discovered that a total of 15boxes packed in black non-transparent polyethylene film were hidden in five open wagons under a layer of coal. As the result of customs control, 90,000pcs. of “PREMJER" cigarettes with the excise duty stamps of the Republic of Belarus were seized.
In turn, on 16Julya.c., at Indra CCP, cardboard boxes hidden in coal and containing 135,000pcs. of “PREMJER" cigarettes with the excise duty stamps of the Republic of Belarus were discovered in two freight trains.
With regard to both discovered violations of customs regulations, proceedings were initiated in accordance with Section20112 of the Latvian Administrative Violations Code in administrative violation cases, which were transferred to the SRS Customs Police Department for deciding on the issue regarding the initiation of criminal proceedings.
